Carnegie Mellon University
Carnegie Mellon
University put a lot of time and effort into
creating an official identity for the Carnegie Mellon Tartans,
and the rest of the University, to rally behind. CMU worked
with SME Branding in New York to develop the new logo for
the Tartans, and and they tapped us here at SCI to design
the mascot outfit.
We worked through three distinct concepts, that embodied
various qualities that the University wanted the mascot to
personify - intensity, pride, and stoic confidence. After
several rounds of tweaking and feedback, we hit upon the
look they were after, and moved forward with production.
Carnegie
Mellon supplied the material of their official tartan for
us to make the kerchief and kilt. Using
a mix of stock and custom length fur, we gave Scotty the
famously groomed appearance we've all come to expect from
a Scottish
Terrier. The semi-dress sporran - that's the pouch - has
the CMU Tartans logo custom embroidered onto the flap as
well.

along with some shots of the former mascot and some examples
of previous graphics that the University used in year gone
by.
